Beaverhouse First Nation

Choose Life Department

Choose Life provides immediate funding relief for youth at risk of suicide by fast-tracking proposals for group child and youth mental health prevention programs/services. The long-term goal of Choose Life is to address suicide and to protect youth at risk of suicide by providing funding for communities to design and implement programs across NAN territory. The objective of Beaverhouse First Nation’s Choose Life Program is to provide support, advocacy and implement events and activities to support the well-being of our youth. Also, to create a safe space for youth (18 years and under) experiencing at-risk behaviours, along with weekly activities and events to promote land-based traditional and cultural programming and healing to its band members and local urban aboriginal youth. We aim to enhance and promote the cultural, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being of our youth by providing programming which will include but not be limited to recreational activities, culturally land-based teachings, skills development, volunteering, support in education and employment guidance, and other programming relevant to supporting the needs of our youth.
